What can I do to fix this error?

  • App · 11 months ago
Most of the "bX" errors are Google just having a glitch somewhere.

If you have followed my instructions to the letter, and copied and pasted the full code in the right place, then just wait a few days and try again.

If you continue having an issue, then report it in the help Group. Chances are you are not the only one, and if enough people complain then Google will fix the issue.

I was recently having "bX" errors while moving a widget. It wouldn't allow me to save for 2 days. I just waited and kept trying and after awhile, just like magic, it worked just fine.

I am trying to contact the author of the TwitThis plugin. There are two small validation errors in his code which I want to point out to him. How do I contact him? His email id: support@twitthis.com does not work.
  • App · 11 months ago
I really couldn't tell you how to contact him. I am trying to find this out, myself.

I wanted to thank him for linking to me.

Unfortunately, I can't find anything other than the same email address that you found.

Good now i have added :)

Lovely. Real simple. I was able too add the button. Thanx a lot. I have realized I have to learn HTML,CSS,etc. to make my blog better. Would visit ur blog again and ofcourse I'll Tweet this post :)

    p class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'

This line is not in my layout.

  • RicNP · 2 months ago
me neither I only could find (<div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'>) but not (p class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1') and at the end of the error message says "The element type "div" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "
  • app · 2 months ago
You do have the first line mentioned. Paste the code right after it and make sure you are pasting in the entire code.
  • App · 10 months ago
@Sheri - Did you expand widgets? You might not see it unless you do.

If you have expanded widgets and still do not see it, then tell me what template you are using and I'll examine it and tell you where it should go.

Most Blogger provided templates do have this line, but it is often omitted or named something else in templates you get from other websites. If you are using a 3rd party template, you will need to provide me with the URL where I can get a copy to look at.

  • dave · 10 months ago
i am also having trouble with this as well.
  • App · 10 months ago
@Dave - I am assuming you want to use this in the template you linked your name to?

I checked it and you do have those 2 lines in your template.

    Please refer to step #4:

You need to put a check mark in the box on the upper right to expand widgets before you can see those 2 lines.

  • Stratocat · 10 months ago
I use a classic blogger 3rd party template that doesn't have:

    "div class post footer"

Right now I have a Twitter button which just links to my Twitter page, but I'd like to use a "Twit this" instead if possible. I found workable code to do this for Facebook.

    http://stratoblogster.blogspot.com

    Thanks!!!

  • App · 10 months ago
@Stratocat - You can use the code that I have in yellow. It should work just fine. It's just that I can't offer any instructions as to where in your template code to place it. You will have to figure that out yourself.

Keep in mind that you only want it to show on post pages and not the main page, or you will have the issue I mentioned about the possibility of the post not being there when someone on twitter clicks through to go to the site.

  • Stratocat · 10 months ago
Thank you so much for responding!!!

I was able to find a simple workaround requiring NO code changing or adding, by using Feedburner's Feed Flare option.

    I discovered this here:

    http://www.blogcoach.org/2008/12/tools-add-twit-this-to-your-posts.html

  • App · 10 months ago
I guess that's good if you use Feedburner.

I dropped Feedburner because of issues related to how often it updates. It's too slow for my liking.

The AddThis button that I have on this blog pretty much covers everything, but I don't think most visitors know that. Plus the extra buttons are more of an encouragement to share on specific services that I feel are of merit.

  • Coolbuster · 10 months ago
i have tried using this in my blog, followed the instructions to no avail. what seems to be the problem sir?

    http://coolbusteratyourservice.blogspot.com/

  • App · 10 months ago
@Coolbuster - Without you telling me what the symptoms are, I can't possibly tell you. Are you getting an error message? Can't find where to put the code? Something else?

You will have to provide more details in order for me to help you.

  • Alain-Christian · 10 months ago
I have a twitter button on my site but it doesn't require people to log in a second time.

    This thing is fail. :(

  • Eric · 10 months ago

  • MindFul MiMi · 10 months ago
    Hi there,
I followed your instructions to the letter and got no error messages from Blogger. However, the button does not show up on my posts. I had the same trying t ad the Google reader button.
Getting no error message, I am unable to tell you more...
Any idea why this is not showing?
    Thanks
    Mimi

  • App · 10 months ago
    @ MindFul MiMi:

I just checked the source on all your blogs and I don't see the code in there anywhere. Did you remove it?

I can't tell you what you did wrong if I can't see it.

Thank you so much!!! I'm one of those dummies trying to get along with social networks, blogs and so on. Your instructions helped me through even though I know nothing about HTML. Nice work!
  • Unfortunate Names · 9 months ago
this worked perfectly! I just have a question. how did you get the twit this button to show up on the same line as the other social network buttons? everytime i add something they are put on a separate line.
  • App · 9 months ago
@Unfortunate Names - I don't use any line break, div, or paragraph tags around any of my individual buttons.

Just like when using plain old images without any links, they all come out in a straight line.

Now if you insert your button codes directly into your posts, instead of your template, the post editor may place them on separate lines.

Additionally, I took a look at your blog and you seem to have the twitthis button showing on all pages, including your main page, which I advised against. And you have 2 buttons showing for share/save showing on post pages.

  • Our Family · 9 months ago
Hello, This is great! I just have one question; how do you set the buttons to show up on one line if you have multiple buttons, instead of going on top of each other.
    Thank you.
    http://hereweare-soeherman.blogspot.com

  • App · 9 months ago
@Our Family - see the comment I made right above yours.
  • Bhairavi Andrea · 9 months ago
thank you so much. everything worked fine. great job. bless. :D
  • z-vet · 9 months ago
I think it's better to add this code to line 3 of post-footer.
This way you have much nicer and more intuitive arrangement of stuff below your post. I mean you first inform the reader about the author and, maybe, tags assigned to post, then comes comments link and just after that you ask your reader to share your post on Twitter or whatever.
Anyway, thanks for that: FeedBurner's Flare is really not a solution.

  • Events dear boy, events · 9 months ago
I cannot find the lines you mention in my code. Can you advise if I should be looking for alternate lines.
  • App · 9 months ago
@Events dear boy, events - I checked your blog's soiurce and you do have the first line, just as I had stated it in my post. The other line is slightly different in your template.

You need to expand the widgets like I said in step 4 in order to see it.

    Look for this:

    <div class='post-footer'>
    <div class='post-footer-line post-footer-line-1'>

Paste the code right between those 2 lines.

  • Events dear boy, events · 9 months ago
Thank you. Problem I have now is that is the Twit this button is not lined up with my 'Digg this story' plug in.

Can I ask for your further advice?

  • App · 9 months ago
@Events dear boy, events - Right before the part of the code shown in yellow, paste this:

    <div align='right'>

Right after the part in yellow, paste this:

    </div>

That should shift the button to the right side, underneath your Digg button.

If that isn't what you want, then explain exactly what you do want and I'll try to help.

  • Events dear boy, events · 9 months ago
I would like to have the TwitThis button alongside the Digg button rather than underneath.

One more thing if I may. The Digg button appears in a blog post if viewed in Google Reader but the TwitThis button does not.

    Thanks again

  • App · 9 months ago
@Events dear boy, events - The only way you can do that would be to move the Digg this button. But then it won't appear in Google Reader any more.

You really don't want the TwitThis button showing in Google Reader because it was made by modifying the bookmarklet code, and it doesn't work the way you are thinking when someone clicks it.

What it does is submits the URL of what page they are on, and they would be tweeting the URL of Google Reader and not your post, if that is where they really are when they click it. (and I think Google Reader gets enough traffic already, without you making that mistake)

  • Events dear boy, events · 9 months ago
I understand your comments and have completed this. It looks much better now. Thank you. You are a star!

One more thing if I may. Is there anyway I can move the Wikio Button so it above "Posted by Events dear boy, events"?

  • App · 9 months ago
I created a place in my button code to make it easier for you to add other buttons.

Move the code for the wikio button to right below this line:

<!-- things placed after this line will show on all pages -->

That will put it on the same line as the TwitThis button, but since it's not in the same div, and it contains styling to align it to the left, it should be right above the name and not on the right like the TwitThis button.

Also, it will still show on every page, including the main page of your blog.

  • Events dear boy, events · 9 months ago
That is great. Done that. There is a slight difference where the Wikio button on the main page to where it is on the individual page.

I would prefer as it is shown on the individual page. Can this be altered?

  • waywardmedic · 9 months ago
The instructions were simple and I had absolutely no problems in doing this. Thank you.
  • Lee · 9 months ago
I'm having trouble. I added it in the correct place but it wouldn't add correctly.
  • App · 9 months ago
@Lee - You'll have to explain with more detail what the problem is, or I can't begin to help you.
  • Donna @ Way More Homemade · 9 months ago
OK... I'm a little clueless here. I inserted the code, the button shows up, and all that is perfect. Flawless. But I click on the button, even on your site, and it just takes me to the "twit this" main page. I'm cluelss as to how it actually works.
  • App · 9 months ago
@Donna - You are the first person that I have heard complain about this problem.

I am not sure why it is doing that, since it works just fine for me and everyone else.

What you should be seeing is a small window with a login box for twitter.

I am almost 100% positive that the issue is on your PC and not with my code or the TwitThis service.

Maybe something in your browser's settings or some plugin you have installed is interfering with it functioning properly.

I am sorry, but I really can't help you with fixing that.

  • Donna @ Way More Homemade · 9 months ago
Ok, yes, I tried it on my work computer and it's fine. There is something up with my machine and certain websites not letting me log in. Thanks for at least answering. :)
  • The Coupon "High" · 9 months ago
I added the code to my html, and clicked the widget box at top. I think I put it in the right place. It doesn't give me an error, but I don't see a button on my posts. I checked the html after posting, and the code is there so I'm not sure what I did wrong.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • App · 9 months ago
@The Coupon "High" - Looks like it's working to me. You won't see it on the main page. It will be on post pages.
  • The Coupon "High" · 9 months ago
Thanks so much. I see it now. I just wasn't looking at the right thing. This was super easy. Thanks for the great code.
  • Tim Hoskins · 9 months ago
I copied and pasted the code into the template of my blog, and did not receive an error message. However, the button did not appear in the blog posts after I saved out the modified template.

Any ideas why this may be the case?

  • App · 9 months ago
@Tim Hoskins - I am assuming you are referring to your Private Banking blog, correct?

The code seems to be working just fine. The button is showing up on post pages, just like it should.

Remember that it will NOT show on the main page of your blog where there are multiple posts and the content changes. This is because the link the button passes is the url of the page in which the button is clicked, and if that is the main page of your blog, the article may not be there when someone clicks the link on twitter.

Correction... this is the error msg I get:

Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The element type "p" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".

  • App · 9 months ago
    @Steve - The ending

tag is in the bottom section of the code. If you didn't copy & paste the whole code, you will get that error message.

Additionally, after it does go through, don't look on your main page for it, because it won't be there. Check on a post page, as these 2 codes work on post pages only.

@TanyaVB - You will have to give me a link to your blog so I can take a look at it, since I don't have a local copy of that template and don't know of anyone that is currently using it.

I tried to find your blog but the one that is linked to your Blogger profile doesn't seem to be using the Ms Moto template and you have the button installed on it already (although incorrectly, since it is showing on the main page and shouldn't be).

@CTRealEstateGuy - Look in your template where you placed the StumbleUpon button code.

I would place the full code I supplied right after that, and then move the StumbleUpon button code to the upper section of my button code, where it says to place things you want to appear on all pages.

You may have to remove the

    &

tags from your original StumbleUpon code to get the buttons to be on the same line.

Sorry about that. Very helpful post. Just one question. Through Feedburner, I have some code posted between the two lines you identify which offers links to Digg, etc. Assuming I can do this, should I cut and paste your code before or after the Feedburner code.
  • App · 7 months ago
@Leo Bottary - I don't know how to answer that because I don't know where feedburner tells you to place that code.
  • Leo Bottary · 7 months ago
Here's the script: script charset='utf-8' expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/ClientServiceInsightscsi/season2?i=" + data:post.url' type='text/javascript'/ (I had to change it slightly because it wouldn't accept it in the comment)

It falls between the two lines you identify as the location to place your code. If I can incorporate both, my question is whether it should come before or after the script shown above.

    Thanks! Leo
  • App · 7 months ago
@Leo Bottary - Well that depends on if you want it to appear above or below your buttons.

If you want it above, you add it before the code. If you want it below, you add it after.

You can also try it within the code, adding it to the top section reserved for things to appear on all pages, but I am not too sure how that would end up working. It might look funny.

All I can say is pick one of the 3 options and add it. You can always move the feedburner code if you don't like the results you get.
  • Leo Bottary · 7 months ago
Worked like a charm. (I posted it below the Feedburner code.) Just gave your post props on twitter. Check it out if you like at http://clientserviceinsights.blogspot.com<br />

    Thank you so much!
  • paul_h · 6 months ago
I posted the code where you said, just beneath the first line you indicated (I could not find the second one.) I did not received any error, but I don't see the button. No hits, no runs, no errors.
  • App · 6 months ago
@paul_h - Take another look. It is there. Please reread my post, paying particular attention to where it says the button will and will not appear, and why.

Then take a look at this page on your blog: http://downtownrichmond.blogspot.com/2009/06/this-is-not-about-twitter-this-is-not.html

  • App · 6 months ago
@INCABOCLA - Please read the message I wrote for paul_h.

You have the same problem he had.

The code is working fine on your blog. The button is there, right where I said it would be.

    Thank you.
  • Morgan · 4 months ago
what simple instructions! That has to be the easiest html changing I've ever done on my blog. THANKS!

My only problem now is that I would like the "twit this" as well as the comment reactions to stay off of my "static" pages. Any advice on how to do this? http://adventuresindiapering.blogspot.com
  • App · 4 months ago
@Morgan - You're welcome, and thanks for the compliments.

As far as your question about removing things from "static" pages, I'll have to think about that, and if I come up with an easy method of doing that, I'll make another post with instructions.

For now, when you make a post that you want to use as a static page, just turn comments off on that post. There is an option for that in the Blogger post editor.
  • Michael Melen · 4 months ago
I tried this on my blog at http://www.uponregistration.com but I did not get any Tweets so I took it off.
  • App · 4 months ago
@Michael Melen - Having the button on your blog doesn't mean people will click it and tweet your posts. If nobody is tweeting your posts, that isn't the fault of the button.

If you aren't getting the tweets, then take a closer look at your traffic stats and the quality of your articles.

You need to have readers, and they have to like what they are reading enough to want to share it.

Awesome button assume it works across Wordpress as well?
  • App · 4 months ago
@Internet Marketing Consultant - My instructions are only for Blogger blogs.

There should be information on the TwitThis site for how to use TwitThis on a Wordpress blog.
  • Term Paper · 4 months ago
I'm using a third party layout, not bloggers. Any help on finding where I need to post the code? Many Thanks,
  • App · 4 months ago
@Term Paper - I would have checked your blog but you didn't include a link to it.

You should have the lines I mentioned in my instructions, even if the template was created by a 3rd party. Follow the instructions and post again if you can't find them, giving a link to the blog you are having the problem with.

hi! thanks for the info, but having some issues... I use a template but can't find the right place to put the code... I'm guessing in this area would be right, but it didn't seem to work:

    .post-footer {
    }
    margin: .75em 0;
    color:$sidebarcolor;
    text-transform:uppercase;
    letter-spacing:.1em;
    font: $postfooterfont;
    line-height: 1.4em;

blog is www.hiltonheadbeachcomber.blogspot.com if you are able to help.

    THANK YOU!!!!
  • App · 3 months ago
@Island Girl - What you need to do is put a check in the box at the top to expand the widgets so all the code in your template will show.

Then use the "find" function in your browser to find the line mentioned in Step 5.

Then just finish following the directions.

I think Twitter is a bit over rated - that's why I wouldn't use the twit this button personally, but I can see why some webmasters would.

Just use "&" instead of "&" to indicate an ampersand so you can solve your problem.

hey I just inserted the code and it shows up and the link works however....the button image doesnt actually show, it just shows a box with a ? inside.

  • App · 3 months ago
@David Wilder Photography - I just checked your blog and it looks fine to me. I can see the image.

What browser are you using? Are you using any type of ad blockers?
  • Alexander Lehmann · 2 months ago
it seems that twitthis has changed the url for the image, the url mentioned above doesn't work anymore.

Change the URL to ajax.twitthis.com and it should work again.
  • app · 2 months ago
I wasn't aware the image URL had changed, since I could still see the old
    image showing up.

    Thanks. I edited my post.

I am not affiliated with the TwitThis service and can't offer any fixes for
anything that may go wrong on their server.

The messages you are getting are not a result of my code or anything that
you did wrong. It is an issue with TwitThis. They are the ones having the
problem. There is nothing you (or I) can do except wait for them to fix the
    issues on their end.

I used the code and it is working properly..... Thanks a lot

But there is something i want. Now this button is coming in the bottom of the post. I want this button to appear next to the blog post title. Then it will be more visible and more beneficial. If you can help me then please guide me through the HTML codes of the template that where to put your codes to get the button next to the blog post title.

    Thanks again

That is way above and beyond the type of support I am willing to give for
this. I am not prepared or willing to give free 1-on-1 lessons in Blogger
    template coding.

    I am sorry.

I do not have facebook or myspace codes, but you can insert any that will
work into the proper section. There is a comment in my code to tell you
    where to put it.

As far as a code for Twitter for the front page, the one I am using is a
slightly modified bookmarklet code and if you place it on the front page, it
may lead to linking to the wrong page. It will lead to the page in which it
is clicked on, which could be the main page of your blog and not the post in
which the person clicked it on. By the time others visit that link the post
that was intended to be shared may not be there any more and it is likely to
make people frustrated and/or angry. This was why I did it the way I did and
only added it to post pages.
